Great Value - Didn't Seem to Work with TPR Sockets

This showed up at the perfect time yesterday. I had to install 5 new tamper resistant outlets to replace some old contractor grade junk that has been systematically failing after 17 years of service. The meter worked perfectly with the old sockets (non TPR). Found the hot inlet on the old sockets and the screen went red and the meter beeped loudly. I wasn't sure if a couple of the sockets were on the same circuit, so this was essentially a lifesaver. It didn't seem to work with tamper resistant…

Pros
  • Great tester, perfect small size, easy to use and saves a lot of time. Highly recommend
Cons
  • It may not work well with smaller or irregularly shaped wires

So far so good! best in my review

So far this tester has been accurate and has been helpful with some outlet replacements I’ve done. I’ve read other comments about poor accuracy so I was definitely worried. So far I haven’t had any issues.Item reviewed: KAIWEETS Voltage Tester/ 12V-300V Non-Contact and Contact Voltage Pen with NCV, Live/Null Wire Tester, Electrical Tester with LCD Display, Buzzer Alarm, Wire Breakpoint Finder-VT500

Not Certified for Use in US

Just to give some background, I’m an electrical engineer that specs electrical components for a living. In the description of this product it boasts a CE certification (i.e. not certified for use in the US) but I got it anyway just because sometimes the manual provides more information. The manual also boasts the same CE rating for UK and CA. CA and US have a lot of similarities when it comes to standards; however, they’re still different in a lot of ways.I gave it 3 stars because it would be a…

Pros
  • Testing outlets
Cons
  • The LCD display can be difficult to read in bright sunlight or low light conditions

Important tool if you ever do wiring

Having turned off a breaker, AND checked the switch, before doing work on an overhead light and still getting a surprise ZAP!, I have to say I'm glad to have this tester. It was the the wrong breaker. It was one of those weird old-style-wired 3-way switches. Live and learn, but still alive! This tool can detect current through a wire through the insulation. That's cool! Good to check that before you cut it with wire cutters. It can also detect a hot lead - that's cool! No more having to use a…

Pros
  • Ideal for use in automotive electrical systems and other electrical applications
Cons
  • The buzzer alarm may be too quiet for users with hearing impairments

Small Compact Tester That Tests for Voltage with One Lead

I love this little tester, its small and compact, and gives a voltage reading without the need for two test leads. It can sometimes be tedious taking voltage reading with two test leads and holding the device being tested. This tester alleviates that with only requiring touching the hot lead. What I like is the metal tip of the tester which takes a physical reading and displays voltage, as opposed to other testers which just beep and/or light up if voltage is present. You can still use the…

Pros
  • Low battery indicator ensures that you never run out of power unexpectedly
Cons
  • The wire breakpoint finder may not work well with wires that have been cut or stripped

That’s what I needed to do

That’s what I needed to do. I am one of those weekend warriors, who likes to tinker around the house. The only thing I use this for is to see if wire is gonna live before I try changing out a light fixture or some thing. This little device does that just fine. I’m sure it does other things quite well too, but I can’t speak to them. Even though I only use one feature, I feel like I got more than my moneys worth out of it

Pros
  • Voltage Testers
Cons
  • The non-contact feature may not work well with certain materials, such as wood or plastic

Does the job, keeping you from getting shocked, or much worse

As other evaluators have stated, this test device does NOT show an actual voltage (e.g., 120 volts). It's supposed to according to the instructions.but it does not. However, everything else about the device works as it should. Has some silly features like a battery polarity test -- what battery does not have its polarity marked? But for the very reasonable cost, it's handy to have in order to quickly differentiate a hot wire from a neutral wire. Can't depend on the color of the wire -- and in…

Pros
  • Electrical
Cons
  • The contact feature may be too sensitive or not sensitive enough

Does the job, wish it had better sensitivity

Me and my husband tested this voltage tester for a couple of days around the house. We thought overall that it was a decent price for the money and will get the job done. The primary complaint that we had was that we felt the sensitivity of the tester wasn't as good as other voltage testers we've used in the past. What I mean by this is; when testing an outlet to see if it's on, if you don't put it squarely in the socket and apply a little force you may not get an accurate reading. With that in

Pros
  • Provides a cost-effective solution for electrical testing and diagnosis
Cons
  • The tester may not be compatible with all types of batteries

Revainrating 1 out of 5

It does not display number of voltage

With LCD screen, you may think it could display voltage. You are wrong. It only display High and Low. It is not sensitive either. The pen tip need to go inside of the socket to get high reading. If you just let the tip touch outside of the socket, it will be L1, which means low voltage. The voltage in the socket is 110V actually. I would not recommend other people to buy it.

Pros
  • Backed by a manufacturer's warranty for added assurance
Cons
  • The tester may not be reliable for long-term use or heavy-duty applications

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Convenient pocket size

Convenient size fits in a pocket, and came with a battery already installed. It shuts down automatically after 5 minutes of non-use which will definitely extend the battery life. Not much no-touch sensitivity to live wires. Needs to be right up against the insulation before it detects. Even then, it doesn't say HI or switch to a red background when exposed to 120v AC. It only does those things if it's in direct contact with the exposed AC terminal.Voltage readings are a bit high in the 120v…

Pros
  • Provides peace of mind by quickly and easily identifying potentially dangerous electrical situations
Cons
  • The LCD display may freeze or malfunction if exposed to extreme temperatures

Handy, value-for-money tester

Handy pocket tester at a reasonable price to have around the house. When I carry the tester in my top pocket I found the screwdriver tip scratching me through my shirt at times. I solved this by loosely screwing a yellow wire nut on the tip (see photo). To change out the AAA battery, remove the screw holding the pen hook, slide it off for access to the battery (see photo).Unfortunately the one page Operation Manual has such tiny print, I had to read it with a magnifying glass. However, on the…

Pros
  • Easy to use for both novice and experienced users
Cons
  • The non-contact feature may not work well with wires that are not in close proximity to the tester

Revainrating 1 out of 5

It's not accurate and inconsistent.

This little tester has a nice digital readout display. Can test various voltage types.supposingly. I have used this on several jobs and I found myself testing the same wire twice and got different readings with this tester. Sometimes this tester wouldn’t even recognize a live wire until I physically touch the probe to the wire. Same with some wall outlets. I would have to push the probe into the outlet before it even reads anything. Unfortunately to me this is a huge safety issue when working…

Pros
  • Dual detection modes provide increased versatility and flexibility
Cons
  • The voltage tester may not work at all if the batteries are low or dead

Handy Tester: my feedback

Handy non contact tester for checking current. The light allows for viewing conductors in tight areas. Has additional features that check for conductivity and voltage reading not typically found on non contact testers.

Pros
  • Helps prevent accidental shocks and electrical hazards
Cons
  • The non-contact feature may be affected by humidity or moisture

Nice hotstick - my new review

While is nice hotstick, is OK for testing circuits, but rather a not recommended for individuals that is not experienced or have knowledge with electricity.

Pros
  • LCD display allows for quick and easy readouts of voltage levels
Cons
  • The wire breakpoint finder may not work with wires that are too thick or too thin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very Helpful best in my review

This meter allows me to check an outlet for voltage with one hand. It's tough I have dropped it twice already and it is still good to go.I think it is a very good quality instrument and I think it would make an awesome Dad Gift.

Pros
  • These accurately detects live wires and the flashlight and screwdriver are versatile
Cons
  • The size of the voltage tester may be too bulky for some users

A handy tool for detecting a hot wire

Worked good for detecting a hot power lead. But the voltage reading was all over the place. Could not find the bad spot in my Christmas light, maybe the 2 hot leads in Christmas lights interfered with reading.

Pros
  • Durable construction ensures longevity and reliability
Cons
  • The contact feature may require multiple attempts to get a reading

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Meh . was hoping for better

Really wanted to have this device assure me of live circuit or not. Tested several 'hot' outlets and very iffy it the device would warn me. So iffy that I wouldn't feel comfortable trusting it.Also voltage reading would only show 70 to 80 volts on a 120 circuit. Expected better . returned it.

Pros
  • Measurable Voltage
Cons
  • It may not be suitable for high voltage testing

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Handy for testing outlets and live wires

Easy to use and handy when it come to testing outlets or live wires. It works fine for me. I didn't have any other option to test it for accuracy but if you are looking for a sensitive tool, this may not be your first choice.

Pros
  • Allows for safe and accurate voltage detection in a variety of settings
Cons
  • The non-contact feature may take some time to acclimate to certain environments

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Valuable Tool for my opinion

Excellent value. Comes ready to use with batteries and easy to follow instructions. In addition to detecting current, this product is set up for more advanced applications which include continuity and polarity testing.

Pros
  • Contact feature provides added precision and accuracy in voltage detection
Cons
  • The wire breakpoint finder may be difficult to use in cramped or hard-to-reach spaces
