Review on VT500 Voltage Tester: 12V-300V Non-Contact & Contact, LCD Display, Buzzer Alarm & Wire Breakpoint Finder by Firman Harrington

Convenient pocket size

Convenient size fits in a pocket, and came with a battery already installed. It shuts down automatically after 5 minutes of non-use which will definitely extend the battery life. Not much no-touch sensitivity to live wires. Needs to be right up against the insulation before it detects. Even then, it doesn't say HI or switch to a red background when exposed to 120v AC. It only does those things if it's in direct contact with the exposed AC terminal.Voltage readings are a bit high in the 120v range. I did not test other voltages. I measured 123.3v with a trusted BK Precision TestBench Multi-meter, and the Kaiweets showed 127v. That's within the 5% range of error specified. The DC positive detection is interesting. I tested it on a 9v battery and it works as they stated. I imagine it would be useful as a quick double-check when installing cells for a battery bank, etc.In conclusion, this is a handy tool that is much more convenient than a multi-meter. It would be a much better tool if the inductive pickup were more sensitive. As it is, you can't tell a wire is live until you're pressing up against the insulation, and even then you can't tell the difference between 24 volts and 120 volts. Only contact will do that. Still, it's a very convenient pocket tool.
