Someone stole my Arlo cameras! Sigh. This unfortunate incident forced me to buy surveillance cameras again. Just as I was about to add the new Arlo Pro replacement cameras to my cart, I received an email from the Eufy team about the new Eufy Security E camera system. Some features that caught my eye are one of them, a wider shooting angle, the helps me get cover through the back door which my old Arlo couldn't get. Second, the camera itself has a built-in alarm that goes off if the camera is removed from the mount! Why couldn't Arlo think of this sooner?!? Replacing a CCTV camera is EXPENSIVE. Anyway, I've been using their robot vacuums for a long time (still working fine after a year and a half!) so I thought oh my god I'm sure their safety products must be pretty decent, why not give it a shot? Installation: Installation was quick and easy. However, once the base stations and cameras are paired, a firmware update is required. If you already have a Eufy Home account, you can use the same credentials for it. (Maybe there will be an integrated application in the future?) First impressions: I'm very impressed. I compared it to my Arlo Pro camera installed in my living room. See attached images for a comparison between Eufy (wide full screen images) and Arlo (with dual side panels). The extreme wide angle managed to capture my back door (as expected) while the Arlo camera failed. Night shots were undoubtedly sharper and clearer compared to my Arlo. I'm still waiting for my husband to help me set up one of the Eufy cameras outside (where the original Arlo camera was stolen) and see what it films at night. I'm curious how long the battery lasts this year. The cameras will likely use Anker batteries, so I don't think the Eufy team will play with us about this feature. The time will show.
