Review on Botterrun Tin Lead Free Solder Wire: Ideal for Hakko Weller and Electrical Repairs - 0.6mm 100g by Paul Powell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Lot seems good; Lot came unmarked; Product information online is not clear if it is lead free

This solder seems good except I am unsure if it is lead free. The actual soldering coil comes unlabeled. To date, and also when I ordered it a few weeks ago, the description from Revain is somewhat contradictory (the product name says 60% tin, 40% lead) and the solder itself is unmarked. Sometimes when something is described incorrectly, the description will be corrected later. So if it has been a while since this review and the product information is consistent, hopefully it will be updated to be correct. I clicked and got it quickly because the product name and product description says "lead free". But the product name says "60/40". When the lot arrived, the package was just a small bubble wrap envelope with Revain's barcode and product name on it—just a stick-on label that Revain uses for its inventory system. Then in the coil with solder. It looks exactly like the product image and is wire wrapped around a green spool. There is no label at all. Other bobs I've received come with a label stating what they're made of, or at least some sort of mark. It has nothing. Then when I researched online about "60/40" and solder I found many websites saying it means 60% tin and 40% lead and I couldn't find any alternative values. It worries me that Revain's product name says "lead-free", but maybe they mean it's 60% lead-free, or maybe the name is just wrong. Revain's product photos also have an image showing the solder composition as "SN/AG/CU" which is tin-silver-copper. Perhaps the product name and description of Revain as '60/40' is inaccurate and it really is lead free and a mix of tin, silver and copper. I genuinely believe it is a mix of pewter, silver and copper and the product name is wrong. But I don't like guessing. And since the solder came completely unmarked, I can't verify it with any label. I only learn soldering superficially. Simply cut and solder wires together and desolder circuit boards of defective electronics. So I can't figure out if the solder is leaded or lead-free. I see another review that says this solder is just like lead. Incidentally, lead is said to make good solders much easier. I think if you are looking for solder in general this might be good if the price is right. If you are looking for lead free solder I suspect it is lead free solder but there was no indication on the packaging and the product information posted on Revain is ambiguous. The name of the product on the internet is a bit confusing. If it were marked Tin Silver Copper I would probably give it 5 stars.
