Not bad for an entry-level microscope

If you've never used a digital microscope before, this is a very good place to start. But if you've used professional lab microscopes like I have (Nikon, Olympus, Leica, etc.) you'll be disappointed. I will try to be as objective as possible in this review. First, magnification: Using the CM scale located on the bottom of the holder, I measured approximately 5.6x magnification with 1x digital zoom (image attached) and 9x magnification with 4x digital zoom. Zooming Obviously there is no correlation between digital zoom and actual zoom as it should be around 25x screen zoom with 4x digital zoom. The maximum screen magnification you can get is 110x (microscope brought closer to the object; image attached) with 1x digital zoom and about 155x in combination with 4x digital zoom. Pixel resolution: I got very excited when I read the 12MP specification. Resolution because it has the same resolution as my Samsung Note 9 rear camera. The difference is that the microscope has a very poor dpi resolution, which you can see if you zoom in on one of those 12 megapixel images. The JPEG file size of a 12MP image from my Note9 is 2.5MB, while the file size of a 12MP camera image is around 0.75MB, although the file properties state 4032 x 3024, 24-bit depth. This result is achieved by setting the quality to "Good" and the sharpness to "Strong" in the menu settings. Also, I've found that it doesn't matter if you're shooting at 1x or 4x digital zoom. The captured file is at the same magnification, so the digital zoom appears to only apply to on-screen viewing. Other aspects: The microscope stand is actually very well built, but I wish the tilt function was adjustable with a thumbscrew instead of a 10mm wrench. . The focus knob is weak and not suitable for fine-tuning the focus. You'd better adjust the height on the stand to fine-tune the focus. I love the fact that I can connect to my computer to share a bigger picture during a virtual meeting. All in all, I'll probably keep this microscope because it's handy for things like pulling wood shavings out of your finger. Overall it's good value for money but due to the above inconsistencies I honestly can't give it 5 stars.
