Well you're probably reading this because your Chevy sounds like a Chevy ie. classic tick-tick-tick header. I went with a 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD, but it will fit almost any LS engine (5.3, 6.0, 6.2, etc.). Little did I know until I loosened my header bolts that this is actually a very common problem on LS engines. Come on Chevy, you have a known problem and you're still using manure manifold bolts. It's so common that Dorman have this patch to save you hundreds of repairs. FIRST I would like to clarify the part numbers and fitting locations as some of the reviews are misleading. Depending on which screw head of your manifold has sheared off, 2 different brackets can be used. This product) - Installation locations: driver's side or passenger's side. The reason is that the heads are basically the same but rotated 180 degrees. So make sure you get the right part. Ok, now for the installation. I had BOTH rear headers cut off so I needed both part numbers above. But this is a rear passenger setup (917-142). If you can get this part, you're in luck because it's a lot easier than the 917-107. The first step is that the heat shield on the manifold will interfere with the mounting of the bracket, but it's so annoying just before installation. You will need about 1/4" to 3/8" heat shield. I used my compressor disable tool which worked quickly. Dremel will also work. I suppose you could try scissors, but it's in a pretty awkward place. Once the cut is complete, simply unscrew the strut (used anti-seize item) and tighten according to the instructions in the manual. Then install the 3rd bolt holding pressure on the manifold (use high temp Loctite) and torque to spec (I believe it was 18 lb-ft). another flat turn of the bolt on the headers beyond the recommended torque just to give it a little extra sealing. The whole process took about an hour. Most of it was figuring out the best way to cut the exhaust heat shield. After this is cut out, the mount will stand up in about 10 minutes. The tick-tick-tick will go away, so the parentheses work. The brackets are indeed more expensive than they should be (about $30), but it's definitely better than the price of removing the head. Tick-tick-tick is gone, so the brackets work. The clamps are indeed more expensive than they should be (about $30), but they definitely outweigh the price of removing the head.
