My grandma always used something like this to bake apple dishes. Although this is an odd device, it has always saved her a great deal of time and effort. I stumbled across this item and knew I had to order it. Unfortunately, I felt that this product definitely lived up to the saying "they don't make things the way they used to". When opening the box, the product smells STRONG metallic. Like cheap metal. It still smelled like cheap metal after the first wash, but not as much. It worried me, but I decided to give it a try anyway. Small to medium-sized apples work best. It worked as intended, which is why the stars were awarded there. Some of the movements were a little wobbly which made the quality of the item seem less than. The suction cup worked best when the table was clean and still slightly damp. Washing this thing was painful, but I remember my grandmother complaining to her about it too. I decided to put mine in the dishwasher to see how it held up. Everything was fine, but some of the metal seemed almost tarnished. Even more makes me think this is probably not the highest quality product. Overall I think for the money it definitely works. I just didn't expect it to be something that lasted forever.
