Updated 3/3/2021 After my initial 1 star review, Songlow contacted me and offered to send me another speaker. Upon receipt I can confirm that my first unit was defective. The new device doesn't have the crackling speakers that the first had. I still feel like the unit doesn't live up to the true 40W, 77db max on my meter, 74db average. As I would expect there is more bass on this unit but the speaker is higher/mid forward. It's not a bad speaker after all, but at this price point there's plenty of competition from great speakers. I saw a lot of 5 star reviews so I was happy to buy the speaker. Pure disappointment after the first load. Definitely not 40W, my old speaker is 12W louder than this speaker. But the biggest disappointment was the sound quality. Even at 1/4 volume the driver breaks down and the plastic inside the speaker rattles, the equalizer is dead flat, there is no bass. Mine may have been damaged or broken, but this was the worst speaker I've bought for $50. Can still try, maybe I just got a bad one, but personal experience is negative.
