Works great but installation instructions need tweaking.

We bought the Trail-Gator a few years ago but I didn't leave a review until I accidentally stumbled across this product again and noticed some negative reviews. I have to admit we had a bit of trouble initially and unfortunately we had to figure out the best way to install it on a trial and error basis rather than relying on the documentation that came with it. I think the manufacturer needs to improve here. I find that most assembly problems can be solved by wrapping a layer or two of rubber strip cut from old tubing around the child's bike head tube as a retainer and bolting it to the side, making sure the bolts are very, very tight are dressed. In the end, it worked out great for my child and I am very happy and satisfied with the product. We're certainly a lot more confident now when planning longer rides, knowing that we can always attach it and turn it into a tandem if the hills or the distance are too much for my kid's 16 inch single speed bike. I think this is a good product. and I recommend it to everyone, just be prepared to spend some time figuring out the best way to install it. does not come with step-by-step instructions like IKEA does. The mount comes with several inserts that allow you to adjust the height of the front wheel of the attached bike. As such, this should fit a range of different combinations of parent and child bike geometry sizes. Also, don't rush your first few rides until you're sure the mount is securely attached to your child's bike and won't slip.

Pros
  • Child seats and cargo trailers
Cons
  • Very expensive
