When I tried to install a new cartridge it was obvious that the valve/handle assembly would not fit. The front "fin" was wider than the original Kohler cartridge I replaced. Instead of sending it back I was able to file down the plastic so the valving system could fit over the already narrower rib. It wasn't easy and I would suggest ordering a genuine Kohler part rather than this one.
