I am a disabled elderly grandmother married to a man who needs to watch a tutorial video to learn how to turn a screw! And I myself have neither knowledge nor experience in building. (Well, except when I was the new owner of the house and dreamed of being a nifty wife from time to time. That explains how I drilled a hole in the middle of our stairs to run the cable into the children's rooms) LOL ! I would like to say that I am a beginner and I am writing this review as such. So let's get started! ADVANTAGES: β¦ Easy to use device. Extremely simple and easy to use. β¦ Compared to several other spike finders that are almost identical to this one and offer the same features, it is the cheapest (sometimes a lot) β¦ It calibrates itself. He instructs you to do this first and explains how , but also tells you that it will calibrate itself if necessary. β¦ Accurately locate metal pipes, live AC power cords, timber frames, rebar and joists behind walls, floors and ceilings. β¦ Multiple depth detection for all elements. The maximum detection range for metal parts is 3 inches, AC power cords are 2 inches, and pins are 1.5 inches. β¦ LCD display, large and easy to read (a bonus for middle-aged people + eyes and people like my husband). for vision problems)β¦ Clearly shows the edge and center of the tip.β¦ Beeps when a tip is detected.β¦ Uses a standard 9V battery (which is also included)β¦ From what I understand in the instructions, the warning before the wire is always during scanning . This is a nice safety feature if you're just looking for a bobby pin and don't even know you're near power cords. Now, before I say the next pro, I want to briefly explain why this is a pro for me personally. Sometimes I came across other instructions presented in multiple languages. This is not surprising as we (in the US) live in a multilingual country. However, these instructions are formatted in a way that is confusing and difficult to understand. I would like them to provide separate instruction sheets for each language to make it easier for everyone regardless of their native language. So here's the plus: β¦ The instructions were clear, concise, easy to understand and written in English. β¦ If you need it, they clearly state how to contact them for customer service/support. β¦ You can use it on ceilings, stucco walls, textured surfaces, drywall, etc. (even filed ceilings!) β¦ A nice little bonus is that multiple picture hangers are included. CONS: I really only have ONE. β¦ The "Scan" button and the mode switch button are not listed on the device itself. Although they are clearly marked on the instruction manual diagram, they should also be marked. I know experienced people who are used to using these tools probably won't have any trouble telling which button is which, but a significant proportion of the people who buy this aren't pros and they need to look at the instructions view to determine what the buttons are for. All in all I highly recommend this rod/electro wire/metal tube/things you don't want to drill into a viewfinder! You can also label unlabeled buttons yourself at any time. This is easy to fix. BUY IT! YOU WILL LOVE IT!
