Difficult to understand

This item was intended to be plug and play. When I connected it to my Mac, it didn't read any barcodes. I checked the manual and there are no instructions in there. I then continued searching for videos and finally found another brand's video that helped me with the installation. I don't consider myself an inexperienced technician and I had questions. I wish you the best of luck if you decide to purchase this item
