I had to crack a ton of black walnuts and using a hammer/vice wasn't quick enough for me. So I found this nutcracker at Revain and thought I'd give it a try. It arrived quickly and was ready to use. It was a little smaller than I expected, but the size is actually good. Black walnuts are very difficult to crack, so I stuck one in the slot and pulled, and sure enough, it cracked with very little effort. Now that I've processed a lot of walnuts it still works well, although I have some suggestions for future models. It's not wide enough in the jaws for the larger black walnuts, also got my knuckles quite well a couple of times as the hand is a bit close to the jaws. (I usually hold a rag over the nut since they like to fly all over the place when it's cracked, so I smack my knuckles pretty well a few times - you'll know after you've used it for a while.) While it cracks nuts, You will have to divide several times to get all the meat out of the shell. Because the jaws are not adjustable, some parts will become too small to split with this device. You have to be pretty strong to crack some of these nuts. If you don't have a ton of black walnuts to work with, this works well and is a lot faster than the vise or hammer methods. If you have a lot of these I would suggest a real mechanical one. The bottom line is that it works and works as advertised.
