Review on Stanley 60 002 Standard Phillips Screwdriver by Justin Bowen

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Why are you like that?

I have one of these. I bought it because it's $1.49 and it's made in the USA. But the four blades of the Phillips tip have slightly rounded edges, unlike all other Phillips screwdrivers, including the old plain Stanley #2 Phillips screwdriver that this article replaced. I couldn't find an explanation anywhere. I can only imagine that maybe this is for some very delicate work where you can't overtighten the fastener. Unfortunately, the opposite is that it becomes very difficult to loosen a well-seated screw with it. The design of the tip allows the head to slide out of the slot once a certain torque is reached. It will not break the screw, otherwise the tip will be deformed. It's not "polished" as mentioned in another review, the blades are actually rounded. I've looked at other Stanley screwdrivers with different handle designs and price ranges and none of them have this weird tip. Because of the lousy fifty bucks and the fact that it's made in America, I'll say it's worth keeping in your toolbox, but it's unlikely to become your favorite driver.
