Finally got around to updating the camera system. Clumsy old 720p cameras. My ALTER DVR supports 12 channels but only in 960p resolution. I buy 1080 and 5MP cameras (amazing resolution) and wanted each channel to be able to record in the native resolution of the cameras that SVEC has. Now let me tell you something else. A wrinkle, if you will. I connected 4 cameras via a wifi extender. In and on a separate building. My old DVR had no problems with it. I downloaded this beautiful dash cam and noticed that it only sees my OLD and NEW cameras on my home network, not the ones on the extended wireless network. DANGER. After some fiddling I decided to bring the NVR inside the building with the monitor and the WALA found other cameras inside the building and inside the building and then all the other cameras. So after that little hike with the NVR it was almost bulletproof. I had to give my cameras static IP addresses (that's what I wanted anyway) because they went offline from time to time via a wireless bridge (needs a UniFi setting that solves this problem). But enough about my headaches (hope this helps others). ). The UI took a minute to get used to. (based on another NVR) but WOW I can record 2592 x 1944 native resolution and H.265 Awesome in my cameras. I'm very impressed with the tech support, they tried to help me but I was a bit ahead of them (love troubleshooting). But they really wanted to talk to me and help me understand what the hell was going on. But again, it's very easy to set up the phone app, which is great. I love seeing my home away from home. I would recommend this model over the cheaper versions as you can record ALL 16 channels at up to 4K native resolution. Now I only have 2 captures, it can only capture 1 HD. I was hoping that it would be possible to put 2 disks in it, but you need a BIG HD for that :). And I wish there was drag-and-drop to rearrange the cameras, but pen and paper works just fine.
