My original Genie garage door opener has been a faithful companion for over twenty years, but its single round knob has literally melted into sticky goo. I had my doubts when I received this replacement remote because my Genie garage door opener predates 1995 - it was installed when the home was built in 1977. I couldn't program it by reading the included instructions or watching Genie videos on YouTube. I got stuck until I read Revain user reports explaining how to activate Intellicode 1. After a few minutes - success! If, like me, you have an older Genie garage door opener, you may also need to enable Intellicode 1 for it to work. Here's how: First, make sure that you and other people are not near the garage door while programming the garage door opener. For your safety, do not have pets or children around when you do this, as the door will move quite abruptly if your programming is successful. This can also scare you, so be prepared when you're standing on a ladder so you can reach the opener's "learn" button. You don't want to fall when the door suddenly opens! Okay, let's get down to business: pull the plastic tab out of the remote to activate the internal battery. Select one of the three buttons on the remote control and hold it down for about ten seconds until the red LED turns green. Both colors, red and green, are visible in the bulb. Then press the learn button on the Genie garage door opener. A red light will illuminate next to the button on the device. Then on the remote, press and release the same button you've been holding for ten seconds. The red light on the opener flashes red quickly. Press and release the same button on the remote once and the red light will turn off. Press the same button on the remote control again and the garage door will open or close depending on the previous position. That's all! I love the compact size of this device and how securely it attaches to my sun visor. The visor clip is also tight on the remote and should stay there. I've read reviews that this remote control is buggy and doesn't always work. I'll let you know how mine works in a later review. For now I'm glad I have a working garage door opener. Hope that helps.
