Review on ๐Ÿ”ณ KREG KMA3220 Shelf Pin Jig with 5mm Pin Size by Randy Salgado

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very happy but with a few suggestions.

It was money well spent in terms of ease of use, time saving and accurate placement of pinholes on the shelf. Today was my first day of using this device and due to its limited use I have a few suggestions. I drilled holes 6 feet long on the sides. When using a dowel pin, ensure that the dowel pin is firmly pressed into the bearing bore and is securely seated. The first few times I used the dowel pin I didn't push it all the way in so it allowed for a little play or jig movement which resulted in very small errors in the placement of the next few holes, errors that ended up stacking up. to an impermissible misalignment of the holes in the two columns. But making sure the dowel pin is in place fixed that problem. However, it would be a good idea to periodically use a square to check column alignment. As indicated in the instructions, correct placement of the top hole in each column is essential. The only criticism I have of the product is the design of the dowel pin. Since the dowel pin goes in very tightly when fully inserted as it should, I found it necessary to use pliers to clamp the dowel pin in order to apply the force required to get the pin fully inserted and out to remove the hole. I would suggest changing the dowel pin. For example, drill a hole perpendicular to and through the top of the locating pin bolt shank so that a small bolt can be inserted through the hole for an easy grip that will make it easier to screw the bolt into the hole and also pull it out, eliminating the need to use pliers. Maybe other people have stronger hands and seat and removing the locating pin is not a problem. But this is for me. That's why I only give this item 4 stars. Another observation I would like to make is that about half the time is spent moving the jig to the next position and the other half is spent drilling holes. Since I will be making a lot of this I have ordered a second jig to attach with the first one so I can drill twice as many holes after each placement. If you make a lot of these I think a second jig would be a good investment and have a second drill handy. All in all, yes, I would definitely recommend a well thought out, solidly built contraption.

Pros
  • Lots of good vibes
Cons
  • Slightly dented
