We have a Bosch dishwasher and they recommend water softener salt. Shop carefully as Finish brand salt seems to be more expensive. We tried several other salt brands before using it at Bosch. Everything worked fine. We have found that there are two types of dishwasher salt. grainy and granulated. Our experience shows that the granular version is consumed faster than the granular version. Our instruction manual doesn't list the volume of salt in fabric softener, but we've found it holds 2 pounds, and many of these brands are sold by metric weight, with a simple conversion of at least 2.2 pounds for the smallest bag or box. You will see heavier weights made to order but these are multiple packs of these base size packs. The Somalt brand is pellets and this seems to be the cheapest and most economical option. A box weighs 2.2 pounds. So you have a little something extra in the box after it is completely full. It's faster than granular, so keep that in mind. We also liked Whirlpool's signature salt and it costs exactly £2. bags. Check prices as this option is more cost effective than finish in most cases and you will never know the difference between the results of these three options. Other brands just don't seem to be cost effective, even though they work just as well. Our strongest recommendation is to buy by price and weight for what you're getting, not by brand.
