My mother has been using one of these for over 20 years and it still works perfectly. I bought one to use in my old microwave (no built in carousel). It worked for a while but started making a grinding/sliding noise and wasn't working properly. I exchanged it and got another one that worked for a couple of weeks and then made the same noise. I decided to open it. The nomenclature for this procedure is: the rotating part on which the disk sits is the top; The part that doesn't rotate is called the base. Turn the device over so the base is up, use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry the 3 white plastic pegs (holding the top) out of the inside of the top far enough (so they don't dig into the teeth of the base). without damaging them. Hold the top and bottom together, then rotate them to the normal position. Lift the top off the base. There is a small (1/8" x 1") spring in the center of the base, be careful not to lose it. Noting the position of the 3 ball bearings and race (take a picture to ensure everything is assembled correctly), remove the bearings and race and set aside. The sealed flat silver glass contains a spring that powers the device. Mark the top of the jar so you don't get confused which side is up. On my unit, the glue that attaches the soldered spring to the base has deteriorated. I used 3 pieces of double sided tape to attach the sealed spring to the base. To reassemble, put tape on the sealed container, install the bearings and cage, place the small spring in the center of the sealed container on the base, align the center of the top to match the small spring , and lower the top onto the base. Turn the unit over, reinsert the pins flush with the outside edge of the top. You have your device repaired in just a few minutes.
