very good lens, which could be a bit better

i deduct one star because it doesn't have a lens hood, the manual focus feel isn't that great and the focal length is longer than my ideal lens is very well built, extremely sharp and relatively easy to use; it works well as a short telephoto lens, focuses quickly but (like all autofocus macros) can hunt; the range limiter switch helps and is better than the range limiters in other macros I've used; How manual focus works is the most important consideration for true macro photography and this lens responds well to focus-by-wire, but it still feels a bit off compared to true manual focus. the lens must be complete with a lens hood; since the lens hood is sold separately for a hefty fee, I ordered a third-party lens hood and it's just "good enough": 60mm gives about 16Β° horizontal field of view; In my opinion it's a little less useful than shorter lenses for both macro photography and other purposes. I was very happy with the Olympus 50/2.0 FOV (4/3 lens with adapter) but it was heavier and not as light; On the Pentax (APS-C) I really liked the 35mm macro with a field of view of around 38Β° - I like how wider macros bring more context to close-ups; I also found them more useful than general-purpose lenses (I only take a lens or two on most trips); 60mm is slightly better for those who mainly want to photograph insects and single objects.
