Position Accuracy

Realalt 3D TriSport Pedometer Review The following results compare the Realalt 3D TriSport pedometer to the Omron HJ-720iT pedometer. It is anticipated that Realalt 3D TriSport can operate in almost any position along the x, y or z axis; It is speculated that this means it counts steps accurately wherever it is placed on a person or in a pocket attached to a person. The Omron HJ-720iT pedometer is a 2D system; Footsteps are accurately reported only when carried on edge (x or y axis). Below is a 14-day walk log using both pedometers at the same time. For the sake of simplicity I will refer to the Realalt 3D TriSport pedometer as "R” and the Omron HJ-720iT pedometer as "O”. Pedometer Comparison Log Day 10 - I carry it in my watch pocket over the front right pocket of my jeans (8066). steps)R - attached to my belt (complete with belt clip); next to the watch pocket of my jeans (7885 steps) 2.24% O/R difference (O measured 181 steps higher) Day 20 - Worn in my watch pocket over the right front pocket of my jeans (6972 steps) R - On the included strap, around the Neck (7802 steps) 10.6% O/R difference (R measured 830 steps higher) Day3O - I carry it in my watch pocket over the right front pocket of my jeans (7629 steps) R - I carry it in my watch pocket over the front right pocket of my jeans (8112 steps) 5.95% O/R difference (R measured 483 steps higher) Day 40 - Wear my watch pocket over the front right pocket of my jeans (7207 steps) R - Wear in right front pocket of my jeans (9866 steps) 26.9% O/R difference (R measured 2659 steps higher) Day 5O - Worn on belt, in holder, right side (9208 steps) R - Worn on my belt, in holder, right side (8875 steps) 3.62% difference O /R (O measured 333 steps higher) Day 6O - Wear in watch pocket over right front jean pocket (7712 steps) R - Wear in left front jean pocket (11053 steps) 30.2% difference O/R (R measured 3341 steps higher) Day 7O - Wear in watch pocket over right front jean pocket (7506 steps) R - Attached to supplied strap, around neck (8065 steps) 15.33% O/R difference (R measured 559 steps higher) Day 8O - Wear on belt, holder, right side (9951 steps )R - Wear belt, holder, right side (9781 steps) 1.7% O/R difference (O measured 170 steps higher) Day 9O - Wear of watch pocket over jean pocket front right while walking (7200 steps)R - worn in watch pocket over front right jeans pocket while walking (7310 steps) O/R difference 1.5%, while walking (R is 110 steps higher) O - Switched device position after walking; I wear it on my belt, in a holder, right (add 536 steps) R - Switched position of the device after walking training; I wear it on my belt, in a holder, on the right side (add 594 steps) O/R difference 9.0% (R measured 58 steps higher) Day 10O - I wear it on my belt, in a holder, on right side, during training walking (7324 steps) R - Worn on belt, in bracket, right, during training walking (7379 steps) difference 0.74% (R measured 55 steps higher) Day 110 - 7573 steps training walking))R - 7619 steps (buckled, right front, while walking) 0.6% O/R difference (R measured 46 steps higher) Day 120 - 7266 steps (buckled, right front, while walking walking time) total number of steps am End of day = 7707 steps R - 7271 steps (on included lanyard, around neck during walk training); Total steps at end of day = 7825 steps 0.07% O/R difference for physical walking (R measured 5 steps higher) 1.5% O/R difference at end of day (R measured 118 steps higher) Day 13O - 7375 steps my belt, front right, while walking); End of day = 8980 steps R - 7424 steps (attached to included lanyard, around neck); at the end of the day = 9251 steps 0.66% difference in physical walking (R measured 49 steps higher) 2.93% difference at the end of the day (R measured 271 steps higher) Day 140 - 7627 steps (front right belted), at Walk); total at the end of the day = 10867R - 7624 steps (attached to belt, front left, while walking); Daily total at end of day = 10535 0.04% O/R difference for physical walking (O measured 3 steps higher) 3.05% O/R difference for end of day (O measured 332 steps higher) Conclusion: Although it I would suggest that a 3D pedometer is more accurate than a 2D pedometer, it all depends on how the device is installed and used. Realalt 3D TriSport(R) has good accuracy when attached at the waist between the core and hips or on a lanyard around the neck; somewhere else, then the accuracy drops. Also, accuracy decreases if the device is left on the body during normal daily activities (post-workout). I usually wear a pedometer from morning to night. Keep in mind that this review is based on actual experience with the pedometers that I own. The reason I bought the Realalt 3D TriSport was to upgrade my Omron HJ-720iT (2D system) to the latest 3D system. If I understood that for my purpose, it wouldn't matter much, I wouldn't bother.
