Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Dorman 905-512 Steering Shaft Bearing for Compatible Models by Josh Goldsmith

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Replaced with a shaft, a quick trick to make installation easier.

The intermediate shaft and this bearing were sloppy and caused a terrible knock in the steering. I changed both at the same time and now my 2006 Silverado 3500 runs like new. Other reviews point out that this bearing is difficult to install and tight, but here's my trick. I installed it in about 2 minutes, lubricated the inside and outside of the new bearing to prevent all mating surfaces from sticking, ran it by hand and once on the steering shaft to the point where it became stiff, then rotated it I order the old stock. When you slide it onto the new bearing it doesn't fit perfectly, but it does fit well enough to then take a pry bar and carefully pry off the old bearing and firewall. By shaking the steering wheel, I was able to use it quickly and easily.
