Do not buy from spares

Thought I would change my stock as it was a bit noisy. Nothing wrong. While there I installed a Dorman bearing and countershaft. The native shaft was still in good condition, but was still modified. The next day the noise was terrible. Even after 13 years, the original bearing wasn't that bad. I tried to fix it with a clamp, it didn't work. Finally, after a month, I ordered and installed a GM bearing. I installed my own intermediate shaft. That fixed everything. Nice and calm. The Dormanโ€ฆ

Tightens the steering but doesn't eliminate the famous GM steering pop.

Got that wonderful GM click from the steering? Well, it's not a solution to the sound problem, but it will definitely improve steering. If you have never replaced this part and your vehicle has driven over 200,000 miles, you probably need to replace it. The bearing is housed in a plastic ring as shown in the product image and over time this plastic will wear out. I am deducting a star because even with grease on the bearings during installation the bearings came out of the steering box andโ€ฆ

Read me! This will help!

2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Duramax. This completely eliminated steering wheel/pillar noise at low speeds. Make sure you have a 15mm socket, lube and lots of inappropriate words to install this part. The process is extremely simple, but it takes patience and nothing less than brute force to install a new bearing on your steering column. Be sure to lubricate both the inside and outside of the bearing and the steering column shaft before attempting to install a new part. You will thank meโ€ฆ

Great direct replacement for the stock steering bearing.

Pretty easy to replace. I was watching a youtube video about replacing this unit and the guy mentions that he had to struggle with the new one to get it in place. Here's a tip that worked for me: make sure you have a thin layer of grease on the outer groove, turn the old bearing housing the other way and use it as pressure to push the new one in. in place. UPDATE: A year and a half after installation, the bearing starts to click when turning the handlebars. Definitely not OEM quality like theโ€ฆ

Replaced with a shaft, a quick trick to make installation easier.

The intermediate shaft and this bearing were sloppy and caused a terrible knock in the steering. I changed both at the same time and now my 2006 Silverado 3500 runs like new. Other reviews point out that this bearing is difficult to install and tight, but here's my trick. I installed it in about 2 minutes, lubricated the inside and outside of the new bearing to prevent all mating surfaces from sticking, ran it by hand and once on the steering shaft to the point where it became stiff, thenโ€ฆ

At first the knocking was eliminated, but soon returned.

This part was installed approximately 6-8 months ago. Right after I put it in, the rattle that was driving me crazy seemed to go away. I left with a smile on my face for 2 months, the rattles returned. After browsing through some Chevy forums due to my desire to stop working on it, I noticed a known trend of people replacing the same part encountering the same problem. At this point, I started looking for a solution that didn't involve removal/ransom. The forum suggested a yoke large enough toโ€ฆ

My GMC Sierra 3500 has had steering noise for almost 10 years now. I replaced the intermediate steering shaft fairly early on, since most people cited it as the cause. I even banged on the redesigned "last intermediate shaft you'll ever need to buy" block as it looked like a headache. Well, it was a pain in the butt, but I still had a hit. Finally I decided to investigate it again and found this camp. My stock was definitely bad and it sat there long enough to get stuck. I know a lot of YTโ€ฆ

Stiff steering column knock

After watching many videos of people having great difficulty removing and installing this bearing I thought I'd leave a review on how I did it. First disconnect the upper intermediate steering shaft. To remove the bearing I used a metal rod about a foot long and half an inch in diameter. I attached one end of the rod to the bearing housing flange and then hit the other end with a hammer. Two hard hits with a hammer and the bearing popped out. The hardest part of installing a new bearing isโ€ฆ

No more knocking in the steering wheel!

This review is for the Dorman 905-512 headset. Perfect, I mean PERFECT! This solved all the rumble issues on my Silverado 2005hd 2500hd. It always looked like the front of the truck would fall apart, but after replacing the bearing with this one it's like new again. I turned the steering wheel to the left until the knob on the gear was facing the ground, then slipped the seat belt over the steering wheel and fastened it to hold the steering wheel in place.
