I will be using it primarily for holding a cell phone. Very good and durable for the price. It also works well as a table tripod. I don't think I'd be comfortable putting a $1,000 camera on it, but a point-and-shoot camera shouldn't be a problem. When the extension shaft is all the way up you get 51 inches off the ground. But the extension shaft is shaky; I won't use it. So with just the legs stretched out, the camera is now 42 inches off the ground and doesn't wobble. At 42 inches tall, I would feel confident using it outdoors in moderate winds. Shelf life unknown.
