I bought this rug as a welcome rug for my apartment because I don't need those rough rugs. My entrance leads to a hard floored kitchen and I like to remove my shoes there, but I wanted to step on something soft when undressing, but hard enough to resist people stepping on their shoes. Let me warn you though, when you first open the box and it is mentioned if you want to read the insert inside, the mat loses a lot. He keeps throwing pieces of himself everywhere. So I prefer to open it right next to the washing machine and throw it in without detergent. I must warn you again, after washing you must wipe the inside of the washing machine with a damp paper towel to remove any lost fibers left behind. It seriously looks like it broke there, but somehow it looks normal. If you take care of it, the carpet is really great. I haven't walked on it with muddy boots yet and I hope I don't have to. But guests came to me and they remarked on how soft and comfortable it was, and they were surprised to find out that it was designed to do just that. It has a durable rubber bottom to keep it in place. It has a very low profile so it just hits my door. I am very happy with it. This is perfect for putting on and taking off your shoes. Would I buy again if I had a different door.
