In recent years we have had a dishwasher whose controls are hidden. It's not easy to tell if a washing machine has run without looking inside. Sometimes, when you're in a hurry, you open the door without looking and add almost dirty dishes to clean ones. If you do this you will have to run another cycle as you have soiled the dishes. We started using a small magnet that we attached to the door as we loaded the cargo. However, we sometimes forget that. That's what we were looking for and never found. The magnet that stays on the door and allows you to switch between dirty and clean isn't cheap. It stays on the door and is easy to slide with one hand (1 finger) to see if the dishes are dirty or clean. It also performs well in the dishwasher if you're trying to keep a mock presentation kitchen.
