These little sharpeners are ideal for making fire tinder. The fact that it comes in two sizes means you can turn almost any small twig into amazing tinder. I've even made great shavings out of oily woods that I wasn't sure would work. Since they are metal, nothing will phase them. I realize I can make shavings with a knife blade, but I like these because they save my knife blade for other tasks, and the shavings I get from the knife make every shave the same material, while this sharpener does some of the Bark cuts, part of it the inner bark and some wood fibers in one chip. That means if I ignite the shavings, the best part of the shavings will ignite and then heat the other parts of the shavings to make them burn better. They go in my BOB bags, in my cars, in my backpacks, on my boat and every other place I can think of. These also make smart little gifts for everyone you know. Love it!
