Review on Walker 16467 Direct Catalytic Converter by Robert Moloney

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Direct Landing Type / As No. *UPDATED with note*

I recently received and installed this (and front right hand transducer) for my Xterra 06 and I have a few comments and issues that I would like to address want to point out. others to view. At first glance, the overall processing quality of the converter is convincing. I noticed that the comb material inside was dirty and didn't feel brand new, so I'm wondering if recycled material was used. It will be interesting to see how long this lasts before the code reissues. I would also like to point out that while this is listed as a "direct match", I think this is a bit misleading. The OE-Kat has threaded holes with studs inserted at the outlet end. Walker's Cat only has regular unthreaded screw holes. This means that a pair of screws (NOT SUPPLIED) are required for assembly. Although it can be seen in the picture I just wanted to point this out so you don't tear your car apart and climb inside only to find that you need a new set of bolts to complete the installation. Luckily I still had a car for a trip to the hardware store. However, it was a disappointment. In my opinion "direct fit" shouldn't mean "fits after you've gone to the store and bought the things that need to fit". is) I believe Walker's cat is slightly smaller than the original's cat. It's definitely a smaller diameter that actually allows for more clearance and makes the job a little easier. But either the Walker-Kat is a bit shorter overall or the mounting flanges weren't quite right because I was struggling to get one side to seal. Basically, I had to unbolt the entire end exhaust, pull it all the way forward, and then screw the crap out of the Cat bolts to connect the two sections together. Still a small crack in the seal. (Yes, I used gaskets.) After a day or two of test driving, I now have an exhaust leak code that will hopefully be fixed by tightening the cat. Considering the price, such installation issues are to be expected. However, if they just made this thing about 1/2 inch longer, things could be fixed. And they could add 4 bolts, nuts and washers. The codes are gone and I saved money over the OEM cat. However, I'm curious to see how long the codes will continue to run. If they come back quickly I'm not sure the savings will be worth it. **UPDATE** I went through several WEEKS of exhaust leak codes after installing it. Working with them was really frustrating and involved checking for leaks, tightening bolts and clearing the codes only to have them come back a day or two later I just wanted to share I FINALLY got the cats caulking, and this is how I did it - I ended up using 2 o-rings on each end instead of one. This apparently sealed the gaps well enough to eliminate my exhaust leak codes. , I had several weeks without codes. Just wanted to let you know if anyone else is considering buying these. I want to order an additional seal set!
