Review on πŸŽ™οΈ Enhance Your Broadcasting, Podcasting, and Live Streaming with the PreSonus PD-70 Dynamic Vocal Microphone by Brian Carrizales

My first copy suffered from quality issues. Screws screwed in crookedly from below

Summary: The bottom of my copy of this mic was peeling off! And it was a mic that I just took brand new out of the box. I didn't sweat much as I just used a black Sharpie marker to even out the smudges. Then I noticed something really obvious. There is a PreSonus sticker on the underside of the microphone, covering the area around the XLR connector. Bumps protruded through the sticker. My curiosity made me peel off the sticker and I was shocked. The bottom is plastic and the screws are crooked! I had to loosen and re-tighten the screws to get the top pieces to be flush. I was surprised at how casually it was done. It was a sloppy build and perhaps more thorough quality control would have been noticed. Finally, the microphone is very "bright". Almost too heavy in frequency. I had to boost the low frequencies and significantly reduce the high frequencies. I ended up getting a replacement for my copy and fortunately this one has no chipped paint or crooked mounting. In my opinion the best Rode PodMic alternative. Looks like SM7B mini. As I said, good EQ technique will make most mics sound great, including this one. - When delivered, this microphone has a frequency that is too high. I had to muffle the highs and mids so they don't sound too harsh at high frequencies - the windshield smells like fresh rubber glue. I had to throw it in the dryer for 30 minutes for the smell to go away. Finally, there isn't a humbucking coil that I know of (and if there is, it doesn't do a good job) to deal with potential EMI (EMI). ). Luckily it's not too noticeable and only affects my area. Since the screws holding this mic weren't flush (they were sticking out of the sticker) I had to remove the sticker and re-tighten the screws. Only then did I discover that the floor was made of plastic. Fortunately, the replacement I received for my first PD-70 had no problems with chipped paint or crooked brackets.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
