The scroll wheel is unstable and too noisy. It is simply poorly constructed or defective. The noise is not due to the ratchet, but to the fact that the right axle is not sufficiently fixed and has too much play. The semi-circular stopper is too large, creating too much play and noise pollution. VERY noisy when scrolling up (or scrolling forward). My 10 year old free Lenovo mouse is perfect. It's unusable for me because of the noisy and dangling mouse wheel. HP should be ashamed. It doesn't cost $5.
