I wanted to recover files from an old drive from a broken PC. I took out the drive (you don't have to), I popped the drive into this converter, plugged in the power supply, and plugged the other end into the USB port. Then I opened my drive list, found the old drive in the list, opened it and copied all of its files to a folder on my new computer. Please note that you cannot copy programs. If you cannot find the installation CD of the purchased programs, but you can find the authorization code, you can download the programs from the Internet. If the drive fails on the same computer where you are installing the new drive and you have upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7, 8 or 8.1, you can download a free copy of Windows 10 without an authorization code.
