Design and quality issues

I bought several of these for my road bikes because I realized I was giving up some of the features of a large mirror for looks. However, I have come to the conclusion that, as with many other things in life, looks are not everything and in this case they do not compensate for some serious shortcomings. They are difficult to see and appear to be much further away than they really are. I find that under certain conditions, such as a gray car / gray road / without daytime running lights, can get very close before it is clearly visible. The quality is also bad for this price. As others have noted, even with careful use, the mirror's finish will degrade, further reducing visibility. And the handle in the socket dangles, so any major bump in the road will cause the mirror to shift, requiring constant adjustment. You can make a temporary fix by wrapping tape around the handle, but this isn't necessary if it was originally designed correctly. So overall probably better than no mirror at all. Pretty to look at and (if not knocked out) useful when navigating into lanes or as a first check for overtaking vehicles - provided you confirm this by looking over your shoulder before pulling out of your lane. I've decided that I care more about safety than looks, so my sprint echs are now being replaced with slightly more braked mirrors that give a much better view.
