I bought this CO meter because one of the CO detectors in my house showed that I had elevated CO levels. The CO alarm cannot tell you how high the CO is. I have 5 carbon monoxide detectors and only one showed a problem - the farthest from any possible source of carbon monoxide. One silly thing to do when your carbon monoxide detector goes off is to google for dangerous carbon monoxide levels and search for Revain. inexpensive CO meter with good reviews. But I did. I then waited the 3 days it took Revain to ship my CO meter. When I took it out of the box and put in 3 batteries, the CO meter started flashing and beeping. I then had to read the instructions to find out what it meant and google some more. At this point I called the fire department emergency number and was told to call the gas company. Within an hour someone was dispatched to circle the entire house trying to locate the carbon monoxide source. He checked the usual things - cooker, kettle, hob, tumble dryer. He checked the garage for elevated levels of carbon monoxide that could be entering the home. None of them emitted elevated levels of CO. Then he saw me charging 6 batteries for boats, RVs and lawn mowers in my basement. The level of CO in the battery area exceeded the 1000 ppm that this meter could register. It's hard to tell if this gauge is accurate. The number on the screen jumps sharply. I compared the reading I took to the gas company guy's reading. He registered different numbers in different places. Sometimes his number was higher than mine, sometimes lower. His gauge also had a 10 inch wand on the end of a 3 foot hose that he could attach to different places. I love that I can walk through the house and see even a small amount of CO being measured. I also love that I can leave this battery powered portable device running anywhere and it will alarm if it detects elevated levels of CO. It was definitely a good price and did exactly what I needed.
