These Insignia powered bookshelf speakers are available now for about a third of their original $200 retail price. electronics, but they tend to be reluctant to disclose the features of their products. Here's what I found: Insignia enabled bookshelf speakers (part number NS-HBTSS116). Each speaker is eleven inches tall and weighs approximately seven pounds. The clattering of the knuckles against the loudspeaker housing confirms the solid construction. (The cabinet "sounds" more solid and weighs more than the high-end Micca MB42 speaker cabinet.) 1" soft dome tweeter. Total power is 22W RMS per channel. Bluetooth works fine, just turn on the speaker, press the BT button on the remote and search your device for NS-HBTSS116 Once connected you will receive a confirmation tone and a blue light on the main speaker to indicate when you are pairing and connecting two additional inputs: 3.5mm and RCA. The speaker indicator (located behind the removable grille on the main speaker) shows which input is selected. These powered speakers have a subwoofer output, which was an advantage for me. I was surprised that the output port of the subwoofer had a fixed level! So if you decide to use an AUX connection, remember that it will reproduce full bass regardless of au f what volume the speakers are set to. What's really odd is that the Insignia manual doesn't even mention there's an aux output to the systems, despite it being clearly visible and labeled on the speaker image in the manual. Maybe they just didn't feel like explaining why their speaker's subwoofer output is fixed and not variable like most other subwoofer outputs? There is a simple solution to this problem. :one. Maximum power output of the Insignia speakers with connected active subwoofer2. Lower the volume on your input device, then play it through the Insignia's speakers, increasing the volume to a normal listening level.3. Set up a powered subwoofer to match the Insignia's power output. This way the subwoofer output will always be balanced with the speakers. Simply use the audio source to adjust the overall volume by keeping the Insignia at or near its maximum volume. After some fiddling, I really liked the look and sound of these powered bookshelf speakers. Paired with a Polk PSW10 subwoofer I have a great sounding Bluetooth bedroom stereo. for a total price of less than $200!
