Installation on the garage ceiling for storing 2 snowboards, 5 pairs of skis (including 2 pairs of thick skis) and 3 pairs of poles. I put one snowboard on top of the other to fit everything. I spaced the brackets 36 inches apart which was perfect for everything. Since I wanted them installed perpendicular to the floor joists, I installed them on 1x6 lumber that I cut. enough to span two beams. I used 1/4" bolts to install the wood (1") and wood to ceiling joist (2 1/2") brackets - this hardware was NOT included. I couldn't use the screws included in the kit as they are designed to mount the brackets directly to the floor joist, which would make them parallel instead of perpendicular. They are made of thick, durable material with a high-quality coating. The hands are covered in a dense foam that I suspect will hold up well over time. (We'll see.) The arms are vertically adjustable, and it couldn't be easier.
