Review on πŸ”Š Android Speaker Dock with Bluetooth - Philips Fidelio AS851/37 by Peter Hallett

Great docking station for the price

This is my first experience with an audio docking station. I used to only use my Logitech 5.1 surround sound system to play music. I have to say that I am very impressed with this little docking station. Interface: The dock port is only used to charge the device, no other interfaces are activated via USB. Everything else happens over a Bluetooth connection. Bluetooth connected quickly. Switching devices is as easy as disconnecting and reconnecting another. The Bluetooth range is good. I've found that my phone (Samsung Galaxy SIII) can be 20-30 feet away and still have a clear connection. The iPad mini has a little more trouble: at 20-30 feet I had occasional jumps. My MacBook Pro is pretty much useless when docked (it needs to have a line of sight within 10 feet or I miss it all the time), but I suspect that's the MacBook's fault considering that other devices are working properly. That's one of the great things about a Bluetooth docking station: any Bluetooth-enabled device can work with it wirelessly. In fact, we almost never use the built-in charging port. The board appears to be of good quality. Pretty much all we use it for is volume control. If you use the Philips app, you probably use the remote control more. Phone apps: one word: useless. I wouldn't even waste time downloading them. They do not enhance your experience in any way. Additionally, when you connect to the dock, the app will launch automatically and appear in the notification bar. Sound: now what you've all been waiting for: sound. First, let me say that I know a lot about audio. I'm by no means an audiophile, but I am an accomplished musician. The sound is excellent considering what the device is. The docking station does not have a separate subwoofer. So if you like to feel his music, you will be disappointed. But the dock produces a clear sound. I have the feeling that the sound balance is right: not too shrill highs, not too strong bass. When listening to the song Five for Fighting "100 Years", the artist's voice stands out against the background music, but you can clearly see the overall picture of the song. You would never guess that full sound comes out of such a small docking station. "Paradise" by Coldplay shows the system's weakness for heavy bass with its dubstep-like bass, but the song also sounds good at lower volumes. In general, the volume of the device is more than sufficient. The sustained bass suffers at higher volumes, but it doesn't boom or distort. The best use for this dock's bass is as a bass drum on a standard set of drums. You'll get a good beat in songs with a heavy drum rhythm. The docking station easily fills a large room. Bottom line: if you're looking for amazing sound at the Bose store, go ahead (even better, don't buy overpriced Bose speakers). If you're looking for a very good (cheaper) speaker dock with great sound, then this dock is for you. Pairing with devices works great. I highly recommend this product!
