Review on πŸ”§ UGEARS Mechanical Self-Propelled Model by Jason Martinez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Patience and skill required

I put this together for my 7 year old grandson as a Christmas present. He really likes it and was happy to see all the parts working together. It took me about 2 hours to assemble. When assembling, you really have to pay attention to the orientation of some parts. The instructions are clear and the parts I put together incorrectly were my own fault for not paying enough attention. There were times when I thought I would break pieces by putting them together. It definitely takes patience and a little finesse. I chose this Ugear model because it looked like the most basic of their line. I had some axle mounts (toothpicks) although I used wax as instructed. I disassembled the gears and opened up the holes in the case a bit with a small drill and a vise. I missed the holes a second time and reassembled. It works perfectly. I understand that some people expect it to come out of the box, but even when I'm making plastic models, there are parts I need to drill, saw, or sand to make them a better fit. For me, that's part of the fun of model building. When you create a model for the first time, it can be a bit frustrating. Patience. sophistication. You will get there and everything will work when you are done. This was my first model from Ugear and I loved the build. I will be ordering more models soon.
