Type of review

I bought one to use as a business card holder. Everyone who sees it working gets nothing but compliments and it looks pretty good on my desk. It wasn't difficult to assemble, but it did require some adjustment to get the gears spinning cleanly and without slipping. All in all, this is a well designed product. I'm afraid that one day it will warp and the gears won't spin cleanly, but so far so good.

Pros
  • Great!
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Interesting to build and operate.

I have bought many of these small working puzzles and recently saw this one on business cards. I was able to build this in under 2 hours. This toothpick was a bit painful to install. I broke a few pieces in the process, but just in case they send more. It took some time to "break in" the gears to open and close on their own, but it's a nice puzzle/working model nonetheless. Now it works without any problems. Highly recommended for those who love puzzles and models.

Frustration with toothpick UPDATE

Toothpicks are very tight as they should be. You must use the "0" tool to insert the toothpicks into the different parts. directions are not clear. Do it: Insert one end of the toothpick into the hole in the tool (next to the word UGEARS). Then hold the tool and toothpick with both hands like a syringe, with both thumbs pressing on the flat side of the tool. Use 2 fingers on each hand to hold the piece in place. The tool pushes the toothpick into the part. Sounds complicated, but if you imagine

A fun build and a good conversation starter.

This was the first type of 3D puzzle I put together. Directions are professionally (better than Ikea) illustrated and language independent. The packaging is very effective. The wood is high quality laser plywood and the laser cut is precise and clean (no trace of smoke burns). Take the time pushing the parts, small cracks with protrusions but nothing critical. No glue is needed, but you do need a candle (we used Minwax) as a lubricant. My wife and I had fun and spent about 2 hours on it (along…

Wouldn't recommend this :(

What a horrible experience, I got really hurt trying to assemble this thing - one of the toothpicks pierced my index finger very deeply twice and bled when I tried to pick the toothpicks to place ( axis ) between some really tight parts. Despite the bloodshed and pain it was useless simply because there is a manufacturing and design flaw as these toothpicks are about a half size larger than the holes in them! I used wax - Soy wax for candles and regular candle wax but neither worked, I even had

I would like to try some of the other models

The cutouts are accurate, some edges may need sanding to remove imperfections. The biggest problem with my set was the axles, which come in the shape of toothpicks. I used paraffin as a lubricant for the gears and axles as instructed, but the toothpick diameter is too large and requires wood compression to fit. I broke all the parts trying to install the axles (using the 'tool' provided). When I got to the last toothpick, I had to shave it a bit with a razor to keep it from breaking…

Patience and skill required

I put this together for my 7 year old grandson as a Christmas present. He really likes it and was happy to see all the parts working together. It took me about 2 hours to assemble. When assembling, you really have to pay attention to the orientation of some parts. The instructions are clear and the parts I put together incorrectly were my own fault for not paying enough attention. There were times when I thought I would break pieces by putting them together. It definitely takes patience and a…
