Review on πŸ”§ UGEARS Mechanical Self-Propelled Model by Mike Goodwin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I would like to try some of the other models

The cutouts are accurate, some edges may need sanding to remove imperfections. The biggest problem with my set was the axles, which come in the shape of toothpicks. I used paraffin as a lubricant for the gears and axles as instructed, but the toothpick diameter is too large and requires wood compression to fit. I broke all the parts trying to install the axles (using the 'tool' provided). When I got to the last toothpick, I had to shave it a bit with a razor to keep it from breaking. Unfortunately, some of the toothpicks were slightly bent when inserted, which can affect the mechanics of the device. I've taken the time to make sure everything is in order, but it doesn't always open smoothly or close fully with the mechanism. I bought it as a gift (gift) I wanted to give something handmade as a gift, and since I have very little artistic ability, I preferred to use a set. I added an ornament to the gift box as a real gift. Unfortunately, the mechanism didn't work smoothly and spoiled the effect a bit (although the recipient appreciated the effort anyway!). I'd love to try some of the other models but I'm hesitant and welcome any ideas to help in the future.
