Review on πŸ”§ UGEARS Mechanical Self-Propelled Model by Larry Daniels

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A fun build and a good conversation starter.

This was the first type of 3D puzzle I put together. Directions are professionally (better than Ikea) illustrated and language independent. The packaging is very effective. The wood is high quality laser plywood and the laser cut is precise and clean (no trace of smoke burns). Take the time pushing the parts, small cracks with protrusions but nothing critical. No glue is needed, but you do need a candle (we used Minwax) as a lubricant. My wife and I had fun and spent about 2 hours on it (along with a glass or two of wine). The locking mechanisms are pretty awesome, very impressive. I was concerned that the axes were made out of toothpicks, but after about a month of playing with them, everything works great. The gears mesh well and it has momentum (from the flywheel). Everyone who saw him was forced to play with him. Instead of business cards, we put Altoids inside and made a candy dispenser out of it.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Some difficulty
