We put them in the kitchen cupboard so we can see the back of each shelf. They are easy to install (peel and stick) and thanks to the magnetic strip you can change the battery in a second. Because they are long streaks of light, they cover the area well without the shadows of individual lights. A few years ago I tried other light sources that were not as satisfactory. I don't know how long the batteries will last, but auto-off LEDs should last many months, even with a motion sensor, and AAA batteries are easy to swap out. I played with the depth in the cabinet a bit to make sure they stay on even with the kitchen lights on (didn't have to go deep at all). I thought they would turn on when the closet door is open, but usually it's just a hand gesture - pretty funny.
