They work but not the best quality

I have a good quality awl that I use regularly but it's bound to be at the other end of my workshop when I need it so have I decided to try them and put them in different places in my store. I've been using a Kratzahle for years - it could be CS Osborne. My old workhorse feels solid and gives the impression of a quality tool even for such simple things. My old tool also works fine when I draw a line on leather. These Krat numbers are generally incomparable to anything. They definitely look better in the photos than in real life. The fit and finish is mediocre, they feel very light and cheap. The metal doesn't look well made and just doesn't feel like quality steel. My old tool has a strong steel needle that can be polished and sharpened. These awls appear to be some type of light metal with a plated finish, so I seriously doubt they can be polished. The scratching is very rough and I cannot fix this problem. In short, they scratch and should hold up for their intended purpose, but they just don't compare to a better tool.

Pros
  • Material: Metal with wooden handle
Cons
