Review on 🚿 Moen 100710 Posi-Temp Tub and Shower Replacement Knob Handle Kit, White and Chrome Insert by Ken Ventura

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Genuine part, great fit

Our handle or shower grip cracked inside and then didn't close the water without messing with it which is a typical situation. After reading the reviews on this pen, it made sense to order a new cartridge right away. The people who mention this as a potential problem are correct. Our ten year old cartridge had a lot of resistance to turning. This resistance puts too much stress on the plastic. If your old shower valve doesn't turn effortlessly like the volume knob on an old car or home stereo, replace the shower valve in addition to this knob. Some thoughts on changing cartridges. a new cartridge of Positemp 1222 would not fit completely into our shower valve. There is a clip that needs to be inserted to hold the valve in place. Using some descaler on a rag wrapped around the screwdriver, I really cleaned the valve body until it was free of debris. After that the new valve barely went in and I was able to fully seat the clamp and then make sure it was a good fit at the top and bottom. The 1222 valve was damn expensive - $50! I had to buy it from a local store when I found out the 1225 I got from Revain didn't fit (it's not Revain's fault). It's quite difficult to remove the valve to see which model it has. A puller tool and assembly lube were essential. The old valve is really stuck, so use a good metal cartridge puller and be prepared to try a little harder than you think. If your main water valve isn't closing completely, or you're not sure how to go about it, just hire a good plumber to take care of it. Plumbers definitely know how to handle this. If you use a descaler and limescale remover to remove deposits from the trim ring and tube, and then clean them up a little with WD-40, things should look better. With the new valve installed, it turns so easily that I could probably remove the handle and turn the valve with my fingers. I can't imagine how this new handle will break. It is very well built for its purpose. $50 for the valve and more for the puller, grease and stuff. The accessories really hurt, but the ease of use makes it feel like a job well done every time we use the shower! I received a good item in the original packaging that definitely doesn't deserve bad reviews. I'm also glad we didn't have to break the wall or shower to replace the entire valve body and glad we can still get a new cartridge and original shower handle after so many years.
