Review on Maximize Battery Performance with Auto Meter SB-300 Intelligent Handheld Battery Tester by Salvador Taisacan

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Looks like a really cool tool, but the accuracy of the results is questionable.

Here's what my husband said after using this battery tester: It's definitely made for parts shops/small mechanics. The menus are easy to use and allow you to enter address information if you wish. I was very impressed by the name AutoMeter and the nice protective rubber on the outside. I hooked it up to a cold battery that hadn't been used in almost 2 years and it turned out to be still fine but needed a charge. Then I went to a battery of the same age that had been sitting for about 6 months and she told me that it was bad. It seemed a little strange since the one who sat less time was also newer. For reference, I just went out and checked the battery in the car my wife was driving today. The battery there is only about 2 months old and he told me that one is also bad. It sort of calculates the battery's cca to give you a benchmark, but I'm not sure if it's just based on percentages or what it uses to determine good and bad. I hope my wife's car starts tomorrow. My complement to these observations is that the tester seems to beep A LOT. You might be able to turn off some beeps or turn down the volume (I haven't tested it) and you might not even notice it when you're working with it in a noisy place, but I think it beeps every time. once when you press the button. All that noise can get annoying quickly. One more note: the looks and weight of this particular item makes it very impressive to say the least. However, accuracy is important here, for which we cannot assume any liability at the moment.
