I bought the only McGard wrenches available at my local dealership, not knowing from the packaging that they would expose the threads of the lugs. But since protecting my investment was more important than getting the locknuts back, I went ahead and installed what I had. Then I saw an advertisement for these nylon caps in the McGard packaging. Instead, I found and ordered them from Revain. They bolted directly onto the McGard wrench nuts I had and completely solved the open thread problem. They look like hard plastic, but they do the job perfectly. I screwed them in with a nut in my hand rather than a ratchet and it's been tight enough for nearly 1000 miles so I'm sure it's done. (I would be careful not to overtighten.) BTW I bought the chrome and black caps because I wasn't sure which ones I needed (and they're cheap anyway). I have aluminum wheels and chrome nuts so I decided to use chrome ones and keep the black ones for parts. The quality was better than I expected, although it was an unusual item I really wasn't sure what to expect. If you have McGard socket wrenches that I made where the threads leave open, these caps are a MUST! The last thing you have to worry about is getting flat and not being able to get that damn wrench nut off because it's frozen with dirt, grime, rust or corrosion. This hat will definitely protect you from that.
