Let me start by saying that I know nothing about binoculars. I plan to use them for bird watching (hummingbirds mostly) near home and did a lot of research before purchasing. I bought FAST waterproof Bushnell 10x42 roof prism binoculars which are not made by Bear Grylls but are more expensive. I don't care about the logo and have a good morse code rescue mirror on the back in case I wander too far from home to hunt birds. I believe that their properties are identical. And it doesn't hurt that the Bushnell 8x42 binoculars made the list of the best Cornell U binoculars for birdwatching. 10x42 seemed to be more highly rated and recommended by hunters and they are perfect for my purposes. They are excellent in low light, very sharp focus, feel sturdy and comfortable. They are NOT light and compact, but certainly not too big to carry during the day. I don't see how anyone can go wrong with that for less than $80.
