Ok, 3rd edition. The problems with AC welding (aluminum) were a problem with the torch switch, which occurred just as easily in my workshop, and another problem related to my lack of experience with this type of torch. After clearing this up with a friend's helper who makes a living from welding, we wound 80ft of beads on 1/8th stock over a long, long evening and never once succumbed to temptation. To date, after the initial hiccup, about 350 feet (not inches) of board and it's been spotless. The automatic voltage sensor works fine at 110V. After running about 20 feet at 110, it will trip after warming up with a worn 20 amp breaker. I expect them to go up in price soon and still be great. See first review below, for the price it's well made and the pedal is great. I had a problem with AC welding, very unstable arc, very narrow work window, AC balance at the lowest setting continued to consume tungsten even after switching to a 1/8th electrode just for welding with a 150 amp stroke. However, it is excellent for steel. Very well and safely packaged. Everything looks good and reliable, fits well except for the TIG torch which I still need to get used to (I've always used the Type 20 water-cooled which is more air-cooled). I guess I'm just getting used to it. I was able to purchase additional consumables from a local store. So far I've only done aluminum, maybe 10 minutes to make sure the device works. The arc seemed stable, but not as accurate as Miller's. However, completely different lenses and cups than I am used to. The 200-pound gorilla is probably holding the torch. I have about 60 feet of weld this week and will update my review as needed. While I wanted and considered getting another one. One to store, one to carry. I can't say how long it will last as I've only had it for a short time.
