The video picture in these binoculars is good when in hand but gets noticeably better on a tripod. The ability to take photos and video straight through the lens at night is a huge bonus, but the binoculars need to be on a tripod to get good shots. These binoculars detect infrared light and have a good infrared flashlight built into the body. They are therefore excellent for observing animals from afar at night. They're not the kind that amplify available light, so they're useless for astronomy. The photo of the owl, which was about 200 feet away from us, was taken on a dark and overcast night.
