Ignore the bad reviews on this product. Most of these reviewers do not rate the quality and functionality of the product, but rather the installation process. This isn't your typical consumer networking product that you can just plug and play. However, you can do just that if you don't want to customize any of the security settings or settings required for proper use. You need some basic networking knowledge to install this device. The instructions included in the package only include instructions on how to install the device and download the detection software to find the device on your network. Once you have the IP address, you can simply log into the web interface and set everything up from there. The default username/password is admin/admin. The device itself is perfect. I set mine up to plug into a POE switch so I don't have to run the power line through the wall. I needed this device to extend my Wi-Fi coverage in a small apartment and it works great. Unfortunately I couldn't hide the CAT-6 cable in the walls so I had to hide it behind curtains, but that's the beauty of the access point. You can place it anywhere. on the "top" of the device (for wall mounting). Not wanting a CAT 6 cable to be visible, I had to mount the unit upside down so the cable could just run behind the curtains to my switch. That's why the TP-LINK logo is upside down, but that's not so important. In fact, I'd rather have the Ethernet port on the back of the unit with multiple channels on the sides for cable routing in both directions for wall mounting. This would completely hide the cable routing in the wall/ceiling. Anyway, I couldn't configure VLAN because my router doesn't currently support VLAN, but we're getting there! Love the ability to create multiple SSIDs for different networks and the web portal for guests connecting to the network is a huge plus! All in all this device does what it is supposed to and now I have no more dead spots at home.
