It's been a while since I've had binoculars let alone night vision goggles. I understand that 850nm IR is somewhat visible but they are better in terms of sensitivity while 940nm is invisible but not as sensitive. That being said, this has a focal length of around 150-200mm if my assumptions are correct. You can adjust the focus but not the zoom itself, which isn't a big deal. The images are pretty poor, even for normal HD recording, for both videos and photos. The battery life was also excellent. What impressed me the most was how much IR the device can emit and even illuminate nearby clouds in the sky. Not that I can see fine detail, but it shows how far this IR can go. So with this device, anything a few hundred feet away is nothing! Due to the longer focal length, I recommend using a monopod or tripod if you want to keep the video steady. Otherwise, holding the device in your hands is quite doable. I love that you get a free 32GB micro SD card, although you can always upgrade to a larger card, which is currently cheap on Revain. All in all these are great and fun night vision goggles as well as regular binoculars during the day when you want to bird watch or see objects in the distance with zoom limitation!
